Match Rules
Please note we have Carp (Mirror, Common, Crucian, Koi and Ghost), Tench, Bream, above double figures in Lookout. We have double figure sized Carp and Bream in Bowes. Please make sure that your landing net is of a suitable size for these fish.
Any Angler Caught swinging in fish of any size will be disqualified immediately!
All fish to be netted and unhooked inside of net and placed into keep-net from the landing net. NO handling of Fish.
All landing nets must be dipped in the chemical dip tank by reception for 10 minutes and then rinsed in the fresh water tank prior to going fishing. (We advise you also dip after fishing before returning home to dry nets out).
Whilst fishing the Angel Of The North Fisheries all fishery rules apply and all anglers must pay particular Interest to ru appertaining to FISH WELFARE.
No boxes or platforms to be placed into the water. They must only be on the bank-side peg.
When being weighed in please leave the keep-net in the water until the steward tells you he/she is ready to weigh you in. Pick the net out of the water by the third ring from the bottom & place the third ring through the top opening then allow the fish to go into the weigh sack slowly and closely (not at a height) This is the most dangerous time for our fish to be damaged! Care Must be taken!!! The steward will ask you to return the fish to the water in the weigh sack after weigh in, please lower the sack into the water and drop one handle so the fish swim out of the sack.
The following baits are NOT to be used on the match lake: Bloodworm/Joker, Nut based baits, Cat meat, Dog meat, Cat or dog Complete, Floating biscuit, Artificial plastic baits, Floating baits, no trout pellets. sweetcorn to be used as a hookbait only. No Boilies of any size. Bread is banned be it floating, ground, pelleted, punched etc. (except in matches from December to end February (where it is allowed punched as a hookbait only)
Only Angel of The North Feed Pellets are to be used as Loose pellet feed. All other pellets for the hook are permitted (except wafters, band ums, washters, Fjuka etc).
No fixed lead rigs or Helicopter rigs are to be used, when feeder or ledger fishing the ledger or feeder must be free running. No knots, swivels or float stops above the feeder to the reel.
Method feeders, Hybrids, banjos and pellet feeders are allowed but must be free running and can be used with a MINIMUM 4 INCH HOOKLENGTH.
a) JIGGA floats of any make/brand are NOT PERMITTED on our fishery.
b) Pole fishing hook lengths and shallow rigs
Pole rigs must incorporate a correctly shotted float. NO Overshotting allowed. No polyballs.We do allow 4inch and 6inch hook lengths for your pole rigs. No Direct rigs! A hooklength must be used.
When shallow fishing your rig MUST CONSIST of a fixed float.
Warning: Rigs, where only ‘shot’ are used, are NOT PERMITTED on our fishery and anyone caught using these rigs will be banned.No barbed or semi barbed hooks.
No hooks larger than size 12 or smaller than 18.
No floating pole.
Any unused bait is to be disposed of in the bins provided at the reception. Under no circumstances is unwanted bait to be thrown into the lake at the end of the match.
All litter to be taken home or placed in the bin outside of reception.
Any breach of these rules will result in the angler being disqualified and asked to leave the fishery.
Angel staff’s decision is final.
Rules for fish in keep-nets:
50lb Carp keep-nets:
Keepnets MUST be laid out on arriving at peg and dried out. They should be placed in the water no more than ten minutes before the match starts.
No more than 50lb must be kept in one carp keep-net at any one time, any excess will be NET discounted at the time of the weigh in. Over 60lb will result in the whole net deducted. Mirror & Common Carp only.
Crucian carp to be placed in Silver fish keep-net.
Silverfish style nets are not to be used for retaining carp. Silverfish can be retained in carp nets exclusively.
40lb Silver Fish Keep-net:
Keepnets MUST be laid out on arriving at peg and dried out. They should be placed in the water no more than ten minutes before the match starts.
Max weight to be held in keep-net 40lb. Extra keep-nets must be used when Net nearing the 40lb limit, any excess will be discounted and weighed in at 40lb. If the excess weight is over 50lb the whole weight of the keep-net will be disallowed. The fish welfare is priority.
Silver fish:- Bream, Rudd, Golden Rudd, Roach, Ide, also Crucian carp, tench and golden tench, golden orfe to be kept in silver fish keep-nets.

Golden Peg: If you win the match from the Golden peg number, the golden peg fund will be awarded; if this is not won the fund will be accumulated until won.
Club Bookings:
Club bookings must be booked and a non refundable deposit paid for in advance and all competitors must follow the rules.
